How to make home-made organic seasoning Salt

Salt is something that most of us use every single day. The Bible even refers to its ubiquitous importance. As I use so much of it I always try and buy a good quality salt – such as Himalayan sea salt, or other salts containing iodine. This home-made seasoning salt is so useful and versatile I use it every day both in cooking and on food. This post describes how to make home-made organic seasoning salt.

What you will need to make the home-made organic seasoning salt

All you need are a selection of herbs, good quality salt, and a food processor. The food processor is really important. I use a selection of both woody and soft herbs and also some lavender flowers. We grow a lot of our own herbs in the garden – they are very easy to grow.

Choose herbs that you like. Keep in mind that some herbs have stronger flavours than others – usually the Woody ones.

Purchase a good quality salt. I used Himalayan sea salt, but you could use any salt. It’s good to have iodised salt (which sea salt usually is) as this is a mineral we often lack in our diet and this is a good way to get it.

Remove any Woody bits from the herbs and fill your food processor 3/4 full with them and a quarter salt.

Mix together using the food processor until all the herbs are very finely chopped and the salt has turned green.

Remove from the food processor and spread out on a tray and allow to dry in the Sun . Then you’re ready to use! Store in an airtight container. this would also make a nice gift in a pretty jar.

A sequence of unexpected events recently led us to reassess our lives as a busy professional couple.  Studies show that a common death bed regret is to not pursue one’s dreams.  Though doing this was the last thing on our minds (I was a social worker and my husband ran his own business as a Project Manager in the building trade) we were forced to reappraise our motivations and goals at the age of  fifty six.  What did we  want from life? Was it  really a new conservatory?  More debt, more stress, more worry? For the same price as the conservatory we planned we have been able to purchase a home here in the Valley of the Roses where we can live away from the ‘Rat Race’ and grow our own food in quiet and beautiful surroundings.   We now live here with our 5 rescue dogs and 4 cats. I have started to write a blog and my husband likes to undertake various DIY projects. We also run a holiday business. We have lots of friends and love everything about this wonderful country. I have a visual impairment. Inspired by the best selling novel, A Year in Provence, An Englishman’s foray into the culture, customs and cuisine of Bulgaria’s Valley of the Roses
